TINY TOES
A fun introduction to dance designed specifically for developing young bodies and imaginative minds. The class involves creative movement, dance, singing, simple stretching, coordination and age appropriate choreography. Parents/Guardians join in the fun!
JAZZ
A high energy jazz class using age appropriate modern music with an element of hip hop. The class has a strong focus on developing safe technique with a focus on coordination, flexibility and strengthening exercises. Students learn cross the floor combinations, turns, jumps and floor work. These skills are then combined to create choreographed Jazz/hip hop dance routines.
MUSICAL THEATRE
This class combines singing, dancing and acting, where the aim is to develop ‘triple threat’ performers. Students learn skills in each separate discipline which culminates in learning song and dance routines from age appropriate Musicals. The class begins with a group vocal warm up, including breathing/sound placement techniques, vocal scales, singing posture, drama games and musical theatre dance choreography.
LYRICAL
Lyrical dance class merges classical ballet with modern jazz. Using fluid/continuous movements, dancers express themselves, interpreting the music through floor work, turns, jumps and held extensions. The music usually has lyrics, which allows the dancer to connect to powerful emotions using both facial expression and movement. A prerequisite for Lyrical enrolment is ballet or acro training.
TAP
A loud and fun class which focuses on learning safe and diverse tap technique, beginning with warming up ankles, knees, feet and hips. The class focuses on rhythm, technique, tap combinations and style. Tap theory, including the names of steps and counts are part of every class. Students learn tap routines to a variety of age appropriate music styles.
ADULT TAP
Tap classes designed for Adult students, offering training for all levels and abilities from beginner to advanced. If you danced as a child, are coming back to tap, or have always wanted to learn, these are the perfect classes for you. Learning in a fun and safe environment.
Adult students learn tap fundamentals, solid technique, tap terminology, culminating in learning a tap routine.
SINGING
This small tutorial style class involves no more than 10 students. The major focus is the development of correct vocal/breathing techniques and learning the fundamentals of singing. Students begin with a group vocal warm up including vocal scales, sound placement, breathing support/control and posture awareness. Solo and small group songs of varied genres and styles are learned to develop harmony and pitch.
HIPHOP
Hiphop is an urban fusion of genres and sub styles, from commercial jazz ‘new style’ hiphop to reggaeton and RNB. This class is fun and high energy. A hard hitting dance style that allows students to break from the traditional dance mould and unleash their inner groove!
CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary dance is a form of expressive movement which combines several dance genres including modern, lyrical and ballet. With a strong focus on floorwork it is often performed in bare feet. Choreography can be abstract and often involves elements of improvisation, with movement being physically and emotionally challenging.
*The pre-requisite to register for this class requires students to have previous ballet or lyrical training.
BROADWAY JAZZ
This class involves jazz technique, combining Musical Theatre style choreography. Adult students develop technique, style and performance skills. Music is sourced from both golden age musicals to current showtunes. A perfect class for those who love jazz hands and Broadway style combinations! *This class does not include a singing element.
COMPETITION
Competition classes are offered to selected students aged 5yrs up who demonstrate elite performance potential. Designed for the dedicated and motivated dancer who is ready to commit to more intensive training and extra hours in the studio. Competition students are invited by their teachers to learn solo, duo, trio or quad routines at competition level.
EXTENSION
Extension classes are designed to extend mini, junior and senior students beyond recreational level.
Students selected will participate in developing more advanced technique, flexibility, skills and performance quality. Extension classes are offered in Classical Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Acro Arts.
KICKS TURNS LEAPS (KTL)
KTL classes focus on developing correct technique, targeting kicks, turns and leaps. Students build strength and flexibility through targeted exercises and combinations. This is a technique only class, with no performance outcome. For the serious dancer committed to improving their overall technique.
LCPA CLASSICAL BALLET PROGRAM
This carefully developed program offers formal Classical ballet classes to students aged 3-18yrs. With a Vaganova emphasis infused with exercises from various ballet disciplines, this unique program offers ballet foundations through fun, musicality, imagination and improvisation. As well as developing correct ballet technique, students are offered national and demi-character dance as part of their weekly classes.
Junior students who demonstrate potential to train at a more elite level, are invited to participate in a second weekly extension class. Comprehensive OT pointe shoe assessments are compulsory for all senior students ready to begin pointe prep/pointe work. All grade 1-senior level students are invited to participate in annual ballet exams.
ACRO ARTS
This exciting acrobatic arts class has a strong emphasis on correct physical preparation through an advanced strength and stretching approach. Students will focus on developing contortion and gymnastics skills using the Acrobatic Arts Syllabus, in which students learn safe dance practices and advance their balances, turns, leaps, tumbling and limbering skills in a controlled and developmentally appropriate progression. The prerequisite for Acro dance is that students must also be enrolled in either a weekly lyrical, ballet, or jazz class at LCPA. This ensures students are maintaining the required level of strength and flexibility to cope with the physical demands of Acro and the development of required dance skills. All new students are required to enrol in Acro Skill Primary regardless of age, where your acro level will then be assessed.
Junior & Senior Acro extension classes are by teacher selection only.
